Greg Loughman
Teaching Philosophy
I have a passion for teaching bass, improvisation, and musical fluency, and I enjoy working with students of all ages and experience levels, from complete beginners to advanced professional musicians. I believe that learning music should feel creative, engaging, and deeply connected to real musical experiences rather than overwhelming or overly academic. One of the most important parts of learning is developing effective practice habits and understanding how musical concepts connect to sound, feel, and communication.
I work with students to build strong foundations in rhythm, ear training, harmony, technique, and improvisation while helping them develop confidence and individuality as musicians. By breaking complex ideas into clear, practical steps, students are able to make consistent progress and experience the joy that comes from meaningful musical growth. My goal is to help students develop not only technical skills, but also a deeper sense of listening, creativity, expression, and connection to music itself.
