Teaching Philosophy

Music so deeply shapes the landscapes of our lives and connects us to the moments and people around us in ways that few other mediums have the power to do. My goal as a teacher is always to nurture and cultivate the spark that initially draws a student to the world of music, while giving them the tools they need to thrive in many different musical scenarios. My students are encouraged to bring the music and songs that excite them into my lessons, where together we’ll use those songs as a basis for exploring the framework of music theory and ear training. It is my hope that my students leave their lessons not just as better bass players, but better all around musicians, excited to take on whatever musical ventures call to them.

Biography

Claire Davis is a professional touring and session bassist, vocalist and songwriter based in the Boston area. Since her debut as a performer and artist in 2012, she has become known for not only her versatile playing ability, but her dynamic stage presence, and thoughtful crafting of melodic bass parts that serve and uplift the music around them.

Though her musical journey began on the harp and the guitar at the age of 6, Claire quickly found her love for low-end and her passion for the electric and upright bass soon after. After growing up and cutting her teeth in the Detroit music scene, Claire found her way to Boston to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in 2017 under the tutelage of prolific players such as Victor Wooten, Anthony Vitti, Chris Loftlin, Susan Hagen, and Mike Pope. After completing her degree, Claire began her full-time career as a touring and session musician, playing notable venues and festivals such as Boston Calling, Levitate Music Festival, Paradise Rock Club, House of Blues Boston, Treefort Music Fest, and SXSW Festival among many more, having clocked tens of thousands of tour miles on multiple national runs before the age of 25. Currently, Claire co-fronts and plays with Boston based nationally touring Alt-Pop band, Bermuda Search Party.

Along with being a performer, Claire has always found great joy in sharing and passing along the knowledge and experience she has been fortunate enough to gain in her musical endeavors. As an educator, Claire began teaching workshops at her alma mater soon after graduating, leading masterclasses at Berklee’s summer Bass Workshop, and directing other workshops in the greater Massachusetts area, including a Songwriting Workshop with a focus on empowering young girls through the power of music at Cushing Academy. Through her private and group lessons, Claire’s goal is always to maintain and nurture the spark of a young musician’s mind, while giving them the tools they need to grow and thrive in any musical landscape.
