Honors Jazz Ensemble

Brookline Music School is proud to announce an Honors Jazz Ensemble starting in September 2025 for students with advanced understanding of jazz theory and improvisation.

The ensemble is tuition-free, but students accepted into this group are required to attend weekly rehearsals coached by BMS Jazz Department co-chair, Brian Friedland on Sundays from 10:30-11:20am and perform for school-related events, including end-of-term chamber music concerts, Performathon, and other promotional events sponsored by Brookline Music School.

Open to all students, regardless of whether they take private lessons at Brookline Music School.

Students must audition to be considered for this opportunity. Use the button below to request an audition time; please note your request for an honors audition in your email.

Auditions for Honors will be held on September 21 from 3:30-4:30pm. All instruments welcome, video submissions accepted as well.

Open to all instruments, live audition preferred but video is also acceptable.
 
Perform two songs of your choice that you think best showcase your musical skills.  Songs must include rhythm section accompaniment either with a live rhythm section (bass and drums and piano or guitar if you don’t play a chordal instrument) or with a play-a-long (highly recommend using the Aebersold series).

FEES & AID

  • There is a once-yearly non-refundable $45 registration fee per family.
  • There is a $20 fee per term for payment plans.
  • No registration fee is charged for summer study.
