Speak, Memory! with Nan Ni

Accomplished pianist and BMS faculty member Nan Ni is no stranger to the challenges of memorizing thousands of notes for recital performance. In this interactive workshop open to all instrumentalists and singers, Nan shares some of her own wisdom and tried-and-true memorization techniques and strategies. She will guide students through useful memorization exercises, and also discuss the “why” of musical memorization, and the reasons behind the tradition and expectation of memorized performance.

Students are encouraged (but not required) to bring a piece of music they are currently working to memorize.
