Teaching Philosophy

My mission as a teacher is to help students explore music and their abilities in a way that allows them to express themselves and find the aspect of music that suits them best. Whether it’s composition, performance, production, or one of the many other aspects of the musical world, as a teacher, I aim to help students understand those aspects while discovering what part speaks to them and help them nurture their talent.

Biography

Born and raised in Vienna, Virginia, Shannon has been making music since a young age. She spent her undergraduate years in Rochester, NY, where she dove into teaching early childhood music classes at the Eastman Community Music School. Her elementary music career began in 2021, teaching general music and chorus for Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Shannon began her musical journey on piano and oboe. She has won various competitions, including piano composition and oboe performance. Her original piano composition and “Pretty Butterfly” performance won a composition award in 2008. Shannon made her Carnegie Hall debut on oboe in 2017 at the Concert Artists International Winner’s Concert. Shannon then attended the Eastman School of Music to study oboe performance under Richard Killmer.
