Shena Miura was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. From an early age she was always singing, writing poems and songs. Shena taught Japanese Literature for second to eighth graders Tokyo before moving to San Francisco where she taught private lessons. Since moving to Boston, Shena has combined her love of music and children by training for and teaching Music Together classes. She also has also participated in the City of Newton’s Arts in the Park program as a Mayor’s Office for Cultural Affairs music teacher. 

Shena started her music career as a backup vocalist with a Japanese R&B band. Her major debut song “Long Distance Love” was released in 1994 by Columbia Records in Japan. Shena was also a singer in the group “The Name of Love” which released songs popular on TV and radio. Chosen as one of the finalists in the famous Kobe Jazz Vocal Queen Contest in Japan, Shena’s singing career also took her to San Francisco where she performed regularly at a jazz club and performed for the Japanese New Year’s Bell-Ringing Ceremony at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. In Boston in since 2015, Shena has studied songwriting under Paula Cole (Grammy Winner artist) and has been recording her original songs which can be found on YouTube.
