Sara Chen
Teaching Philosophy
Sara enjoys working with all ages and is especially successful working with young beginners. She encourages students to actively participate in their practice and performance curriculum setup by working together with them at the beginning of each term to develop a “contract”. Using this approach, students have a great sense of ownership and take great pride in meeting the goals they themselves set.
Biography
As an educator, Sara’s experience is both diverse and extensive. Her teaching career began in Taiwan, where she taught general music lessons in elementary schools. Since then, she has expanded her repertoire to include piano, vocal, recorder, and flute instructions for students of all ages, from children to adults. For over a decade, Sara has been a cornerstone of piano education in the greater Boston area, offering private lessons and master classes to numerous pianists. Her dedication to her students’ success is evident in her preparation of pupils for the rigorous piano grading examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
Sara’s teaching philosophy is grounded in her incomparable enthusiasm for the piano, which serves as a wellspring of inspiration for her students. Her comprehensive performance experience and strong academic background provide a solid foundation for nurturing the musicians of tomorrow.
As a performer, Sara maintains an active presence on the concert stage alongside her teaching commitments. Her performances have taken her across the globe, with recitals in the United States, England, Austria, and her native Taiwan. She has had the privilege of performing in master classes with renowned pianists such as Peter Ritzen, Demus Jörg, and Victor Rosenbaum, experiences that have further enriched her musical interpretations and teaching methods.
Whether she’s inspiring young pianists in the classroom or captivating audiences in concert halls, Sara brings a depth of knowledge, skill, and passion to every musical endeavor.
