Evan Murphy
Teaching Philosophy
To thrive on an instrument, we must first cultivate the joy of playing. That is where I start with any student. I seek to understand their unique connection to the guitar, and to learn the music they love so I can help them to play it. My lessons are generally broken into three parts beginning with reading, then chords, and finally songs. Alternatively this could be thought of as melody, harmony and repertoire. My students will develop a solid foundation of music theory, always in the service of enriching their experience of playing the guitar. I will guide them in the development of good technique, push them towards progress and also safeguard their confidence and love of music.
Biography
Evan Murphy is a versatile guitarist, singer-songwriter, and educator rooted in northeastern acoustic music. Since graduating from Boston College in 2012, Evan has built a multifaceted career that spans performance, recording, and teaching.
As a performer, Evan has made significant waves in the bluegrass and roots music scene. He began offering private guitar lessons shortly after college and has since taught extensively in his own private studio and community music schools. His teaching experience extends to bluegrass camps in Maine, Colorado, California, British Columbia, and France, where he instructed both guitar and singing/songwriting alongside his Mile Twelve bandmates.
