Biography
Andrew Taylor is an accomplished violinist and violist whose career spans both performance and education. As a teacher, he has worked with students of all ages and skill levels throughout New England, from young Suzuki beginners to college students and adults. His expertise encompasses violin, viola, chamber music, and orchestral playing. Many of Mr. Taylor’s students have achieved notable successes, earning positions in district and All-State orchestras, top ensembles at the New England Conservatory of Music and BYSO, and admissions to prestigious music schools such as Eastman, Cleveland Institute of Music, and The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.
As a performer, Mr. Taylor has established an international reputation, giving solo recitals in major cities across the globe, including Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, and Washington DC. He has collaborated with renowned conductors like Daniel Harding and toured extensively with ensembles such as the Prague Virtuosi, the Janacek Chamber Orchestra, and the Tokyo Vivaldi Ensemble. Notable performances include his New York concerto debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall with Gerard Schwarz and The New York Chamber Symphony, his New York recital debut at Avery Fisher Hall during the Mostly Mozart Festival, and an appearance with the Boston Pops Orchestra under Keith Lockhart at Symphony Hall.
Critics have praised Mr. Taylor’s performances, with The Boston Globe commending his “gorgeous virtuosity” and “sheer scrupulousness of playing,” while The Washington Post described him as “exceptionally soulful” with “fine-tuned perceptive powers and obvious joy of music making.” Through his dual roles as an educator and performer, Andrew Taylor continues to inspire and enrich the musical landscape, sharing his passion and expertise with students and audiences alike.
Degrees
Born in Boston, Mr. Taylor began the violin at the age of four, and at nine began studying with renowned pedagogue Dorothy DeLay who remained his teacher until the end of High School. The late Henryk Szerying noticed Taylor’s talent at a young age and became his mentor for many years. Taylor has also worked with Masuko Ushioda at the New England Conservatory of Music, Syoko Aki at Yale University and Uwe Martin Haiberg at the Hochschule der Kunste in Berlin.
