Teaching Philosophy

As a pianist, composer, vocalist, and educator with a diverse background in classical and contemporary music, my teaching philosophy centers on guiding each student toward discovering their unique musical voice. I integrate my training in classical piano, jazz composition, and contemporary writing to create a tailored and holistic approach for every learner, from beginners to advanced conservatory students. I believe in grounding students in strong technical and theoretical foundations while encouraging curiosity, creativity, and stylistic exploration across genres—be it jazz, classical, musical theater, or pop. My experience as a performer and collaborator in international settings enables me to bring real-world insights into the classroom. I prioritize creating a supportive, inclusive, and challenging environment where students feel empowered to take musical risks. Whether preparing for conservatory auditions or developing improvisational fluency, I strive to nurture well-rounded musicians who not only master their craft but also express themselves authentically through music.

Biography

Süeda Çatakoğlu is a pianist, composer, singer, and educator from Turkey based in Boston. She recently released her debut album Süeda Sings Sezen under the Ahenk Müzik record label. She is joined by many wonderful guest musicians from Berklee, Boston, New York, Germany, and Turkey. This record reimagines a collection of Sezen Aksu Songs that are most special to Süeda’s heart through a fusion of Jazz, Musical theater, and European Cabaret. Her artistry weaves from classical piano with modern jazz, her vocals echoing the Cabaret, Rock, and Broadway.

She graduated as a full-tuition scholar at Berklee College of Music and specializes in Jazz Composition, Contemporary Writing and Production, and Jazz Piano Performance. Süeda has received degrees and special awards in competitions such as the International Pera Piano Competition, Izmir Saygun Piano Competition, and the 2nd Hacettepe National Piano Competition. Her solo graduation recital at the Pierre Boulez Saal, one of Europe’s leading concert halls, attracted the attention of music authorities in Berlin and was praised in the German press. She performed her song Mülteci Kaldım with an international group of musicians at a political activism and fundraising concert at the Berklee Performance Center. She also worked for Berklee’s known Five Week Aspire Program as an accompanist and contributed to the voice and ensemble classes with her distinctive knowledge of multiple styles. She started to perform as a pianist and singer with the Dünya Ensemble with Grammy nominated composer Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol.

She worked in musical shows at Berklee, therefore she loves to work with vocalists who have an interest in jazz, musical theater, pop, and rock singing. She currently teaches in various music schools in Boston and continues to record and perform her original music with her beloved band.
