Teaching Philosophy

In Jane’s classes, she imparts her beloved Dalcroze teacher Anne Farber’s teachings to encourage students to be curious and discover musical knowledge by themselves. Her classes are fun, positive, and structured. As a collaborative pianist, Jane emphasizes the importance of fluency in ensemble playing and sight-reading. She enjoys teaching all musical styles, from classical to Musical Theatre and pop songs. Her goal is to cultivate the students’ love of music and lifelong learning.

Biography

Jane is a versatile musician with over a decade of experience in both teaching and performance. Her teaching career spans various aspects of music education, with a primary focus on private piano instruction. As a graduate of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music system, she has expertly guided students through board examinations, sharing her comprehensive knowledge of piano pedagogy.

Jane’s teaching expertise extends beyond piano. She currently serves as a composition instructor for the Cantata Singers, nurturing the creative talents of aspiring composers. Additionally, she brings music to diverse learners through her role as a general music teacher in the Adaptive Dance program at Boston Ballet, demonstrating her ability to tailor instruction to different needs and abilities.

As a collaborative pianist, Jane has built an impressive performance career that complements her teaching. She has accompanied dancers at prestigious institutions such as the Boston Ballet School and Jose Mateo Dance Theater, showcasing her ability to adapt her playing to the nuances of movement and choreography.

Her musical versatility is further evident in her work as a musical director for operas and musicals. This role has taken her across international stages, including performances in Boston, New York City, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Italy. These experiences have not only honed her skills as a performer but have also enriched her ability to guide and inspire her students.

Through her dual roles as educator and performer, Jane continues to make significant contributions to the musical community, sharing her passion and expertise with students and audiences alike.
